The department protects over 12,800 people in the City limits and over 20,000 when West Texas A&M University is in session. We cover over 350 square miles which includes Randall County, Palo Duro Canyon and WTAMU. Canyon also has mutual aid agreements with over 10 panhandle communities including Amarillo and Hereford.
The Canyon Fire Department responds to over 700 calls a year. The calls consist of the following: structure, vehicle, rangeland, assorted alarms, medicals and hazardous materials. Over half of the department is medically certified and first respond with BSA EMS. Rescue calls include medical, trauma, high angle rescue and many others.
Canyon Fire is ranked in the top ten of all fire department in the state of Texas (paid and volunteer) and has and ISO rating of 3 (means cheaper house insurance).
