1. How do I set up my utility service?

2. How can I obtain a birth or death certificate?

We can do certified birth certificates only for people born in Texas, and death certificates only for people who died within the City limits of Canyon. Applicants must be immediate family members only. Birth certificates are $23 per copy. Death certificates are $20 for the first copy and $3 for each additional certificate purchased at the same time. Certificates may be purchased in person, by mail or by email. If purchasing by mail, complete the form, sign, have notarized, then mail with legible copy of requestor's driver's license and payment to: City of Canyon Attn: Vital Statistics 301 16th Street Canyon, Texas 79015 To obtain certificate by email you will need to email completed, signed and notarized form and legible copy of requestor's driver's license to vfix@canyontx.com. Payment must be made by calling 806-655-5003, option 3, and providing credit card information before certificate will be mailed.

3. How do I pay my water bill each month, and when is it due?

The water bills are mailed out on the last working day of the month, and are due by the 15th of each month. A 10 percent late fee is applied after the 15th. We accept cash (in person only), checks, money orders, debit cards, and credit cards. We also offer bank draft, which is taken from your bank account on the 15th of each month. Bills may also be dropped in one of two night drops we offer. They are located on the front of our building and north of our building across the street.  We also have launched our new online water management and payment tool WaterSmart.  It's free and very useful!

4. How do I rent a room in your community center?

You need to call (806) 655-5020 and check for availability for the day and room that you would like to rent. We have two different rooms for rent. They are different in layout, size, and price. The large room has a wall to separate the space or that can be taken down to make a larger area. You may call and set it up by phone, but will be required to pay the deposit and sign the contract in person within 10 days to lock in your reservation. The rental fee has to be paid before the rental day. No smoking or alcohol is allowed in our facilities.

1. Where is the CAP located?

The CAP is located in Conner Park at 1900 12th Avenue.

2. What are the CAP's days of operation?

4. Are Season Passes available?

5. Are guests allowed to bring their own food or drinks into the CAP?

Guests are prohibited from bringing food or drinks into the CAP. Drinks and food are available at the concession stand.

6. Does the CAP have a dress code?

Proper swim wear is required to participate on all rides and in all pools. Speedos, thongs, string bikinis, and transparent swim wear are not allowed. Undergarments may not be visible at any time. Swim wear with metal parts will not be allowed on the slides.

7. What type of behavior is expected at The CAP?

It is a goal of the City for the CAP to provide a fun and family friendly environment for all guests. Behavior that interferes with a guests' opportunity to enjoy the park will not be allowed. Inappropriate language and actions will not be allowed. Due to safety concerns, running and rough play are not allowed in the park. Please address any concerns in this area to a staff member should that be necessary.

8. Where are all the rules posted?

Rules may be found at the park entrance and also on the CAP Website. All guests are expected to follow the posted rules as well as any instructions given by CAP staff. Rules and Regulations are subject to change without notice. Management reserves the right to refuse admission or eject any person without refund whose conduct is deemed by management to be disorderly, who fails to obey staff directives, or who fails to comply with posted rules and policies. 9. Are children required to wear swim diapers?

Children who wear diapers are required to wear a swim diaper while in the water.

10. Are diaper changing stations available?

Yes, the family restroom, the women's dressing room and the men's dressing room all have diaper changing stations. Please do not change diapers poolside.

11. Are there things guests should consider before entering the CAP?

Please remember:
* If you have open wounds or infectious diseases, you are prohibited from swimming.
* You should not swim if you have had diarrhea in the last 24 hours.
* You should avoid swallowing the pool water.
* You should wash your hands with soap and water after using the toilet or changing diapers.
* You should take children on bathroom breaks regularly.
* You should change diapers in the designated areas.
* You should shower before entering the pool.

12. Can I drop off my children?

Children ages 10 and under must be accompanied by a responsible person 16 years or older. Children should be actively supervised and never left unattended in the park. Children ages 3 and under and weak swimmers MUST be in arms reach of a responsible person at all times.

13. Can we bring toys (water guns, throwing toys, noodles, etc...) into the park?

The only toys allowed in the park are soft water balls.

14. Are outside floatation devices allowed in the park?

Outside floatation devices are prohibited except US Coast Guard approved lifejackets and infant/toddler floatation devices with a parent within arms-reach. A limited number of free lifejackets are available for use on a first come/first serve basis. Baby floats with a seat and no hard surfaces are allowed as long as a responsible adult is in constant contact with the float.

15. Are lockers available?

A limited number of lockers are available to rent for .75¢.

Lockers are not available for the 2020 season.

16. Is smoking / vaping allowed in the park?

No.

17. What kind of payment is accepted?

The CAP accepts cash, MasterCard and Visa.

18. What is the CAP's severe weather policy?

In the event of park operations suspension due to inclement weather, your ticket stub will be exchanged for a rain check (no refunds will be provided) in accordance with the CAP rain check policy.

19. Is there a concession stand?

Yes, the CAP has a full line of foods and drinks to offer guests.

20. Can I re-enter the park if I exit for a short period of time?

Guests exiting for a short period of time should have their hand stamped before leaving. Guests re-entering the CAP may be allowed back in immediately, however, guests re-entering may be required to wait in the admission line due to occupancy of the facility at that time.

21. Can I reserve the CAP exclusively for a party?

Yes, the CAP is available for private after hour parties. More information will be updated soon.

The CAP is not offering private rentals for the 2020 season.

22. Can I have a birthday party at the CAP?

The CAP will be available for birthday parties. Watch for more information to be posted soon!

The CAP is not offering birthday party packages at this time for the 2020 season.

23. Is there shade, tables, or chairs available?

Yes, all are provided on a first come, first serve basis. Guests are not allowed to bring in chairs, tables or umbrellas that are not handheld. Unless entering or exiting the water, please keep the stairs, ramps and exits clear.

24. Can I reserve a shade pavilion?

There are two large shade pavilions that may be rented when not in use by birthday parties. The round pavilion (30’) seats over 30 guests and will cost $40 per 2 hour rental. The Rectangle Pavilion (20’x30’) seats over 30 guests and will cost $30 per 2 hour rental. More rental information will be available soon.

The CAP is not offering pavilion rentals at this time for the 2020 season.

25. Is admission for my guests included in pavilion or party rentals?

Admission to the CAP is not included in pavilion rental or party cost. Admission to the park requires payment of the daily fee or a season pass. If you are paying for guests to a party, we suggest gathering all of them together to enter the facility at one time. We will not hold a credit card at the gate or allow entrance from a list.

26. Are pets allowed inside the CAP?

No animals are allowed other than those identified by the ADA as service animals. A service animal is prohibited from all rides for safety reasons. Due to hygiene and safety concerns, service animals are prohibited from entering the water.

27. Will the park ever reach capacity?

We anticipate that the CAP will reach capacity many days each summer. Once the park reaches capacity, no one will be admitted until other guests leave the facility.

28. Can the CAP use my image?

All admitted individuals relinquish the right to use his or her photo in advertising and or sales promotions without remuneration.

1. How do I get a library card?

You must present a valid Texas driver’s license with a City of Canyon or rural Randall County address (outside the city limits of Amarillo). Parents with a current library card may obtain a library card for their children ages 5-15.

2. How can I renew my library card?

Library cards expire every year and can only be renewed in person with a valid Texas drivers license by a library staff member. Contact us to get your card renewed today!

3. Can I use my Amarillo library card?

Yes, Canyon Area Library is a member of the Harrington Library Consortium (HLC). Your Amarillo library card can be used in all HLC libraries, as can a Canyon Library card.

NOTE: Even though there are many HLC libraries where your card will work, always be sure to return the books to the library you originally checked them out from. Also, please be sure to only have one HLC library card.

4. How can I renew my items?

Checkouts can be renewed many different ways:

1) Calling 806-655-5015 or stopping by
2) Using the My Account link at canyonlibrary.org (library card number and pin needed)
3) Leaving a voice-mail after hours w/ your name, phone number and library card number

Note: Items can be renewed up to three times unless a hold has been placed on it.

5. Do you have color printing?

We apologize for any inconvenience but we only offer black and white printing. Please try the following locations for color printing:

6. Do you have a fax for public use?

We do have a public fax available! To use the fax it is $2.00 for the first page and $1.00 for every page after the initial page.

7. Do you offer Interlibrary Loan and how does it work?

The library does offer Interlibrary Loan, free of charge to Canyon cardholders. If there is an item you are interested in checking out but we do not own it, simply fill out a form and turn it in to the front desk or use the ILL Navigator link at canyonlibrary.org. You will be called when the requested item(s) comes in from another library.

Municipal Court

1. How can I make my payment or payment plan?

2. I want to obtain a marriage license, birth certificate or child support orders?

You will need to contact the county that you reside in for a marriage license. 

Potter County’s website and contact information is https://www.co.potter.tx.us/ and Randall County’s website and contact information https://www.randallcounty.gov/ .

3. Is the Municipal Court open to the public?

The Municipal Court is open to the public with the business hours of Monday and Wednesday 8:00am to 6:00pm and Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Canyon Municipal Court follows all city holidays and closings due to weather. Most cases can be paid online www.municipalonlinepayments.com/canyontx or you may email the court at court@canyontx.com with questions.

4. How do I find out the amount of my fine?

You may pay your fine online www.municipalonlinepayments.com/canyontx, mail payment to 1317 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015, or by telephone at 833-318-2856. You may email if you have questions about resolving your violation. 

5. How may I resolve my citation online?

There are many ways to resolve your citation online.  Your citation may be eligible for a deferred disposition by going to  www.municipalonlinepayments.com/canyontx or a driving safety course by logging onto www.municipalonlinepayments.com/canyontx, both are options to keep the conviction for a traffic offense from reporting on your driving record.  You may also select the option to plea and pay your citation online at www.municipalonlinepayments.com/canyontx. Note that online payments where the option for deferred disposition or driving safety course are NOT selected constitute a plea of no contest and a judgment will be entered. As required by law, the judgment is reported to DPS as a conviction on your driving record.

If you are unable to pay the fine and court costs of a conviction, you may be eligible to complete community service hours.  Community service may be requested from the judge either in writing or by appearance in court. www.canyontx.com/114/Municipal-court   You will need to complete a financial form.

6. How do I see a judge/What are the court times?

7. What if I don’t agree with my citation and want to contest it?

You may contest your citation by emailing your not guilty plea to court@canyontx.com.  You will need to include a picture of your current photo ID.  If you would like to speak with a prosecutor, you may request a prosecutor’s docket setting via email court@canyontx.com. You will be notified by mail of your court date and time to meet with the prosecutor. This will be a virtual setting. Please review the instructions for virtual court prior to your docket. www.canyontx.com/114/Municipal-court If you can not attend virtually, please contact the court for accommodations. 

8. How do I keep a citation from going on my driving record?

You may have two options to keep a traffic citation from reporting on your driving record.  A deferred disposition www.municipalonlinepayments.com/canyontx is a form of modified probation and the driving safety course www.municipalonlinepayments.com/canyontx.  Completing either option as described in the instructions will result in the citation being dismissed and the court will not report a conviction.  Note that these options are not available to CDL holders and for certain offenses. Deferred Disposition is also subject to court approval.

9. Why does my citation not appear in the system?

In most cases the citation is filed with the court on the next business day, but in some cases it could take a few business days before the citation is submitted by the officer to the court.  If you are unable to find your citation online, you may contact the court at court@canyontx.com. Please include your full name and date of birth in all emails.

10. How may I check to see if my ticket is in warrant status?

11. When is my court date?

Unless you are a juvenile defendant (a defendant who is aged 16 or younger), your appearance is required within twelve (12) straight days from the day you received your citation.  If you are a juvenile defendant or the parent of a juvenile defendant,  the State of Texas has special requirements for your appearance. Note that calling the court does not constitute an appearance.  Juveniles will be sent a summons to appear.  You may email the court if you would like to appear prior to your scheduled court date and time.

12. What is the court attire?

Court Attire is Strictly Enforced:

No tank/halter/strapless tops
No short shorts/skirts
No baggy pants
No hats
Shoes are required

13. How do I request time served?

Defendants must provide documentation from the jail showing the book-in date and the release date or jail paperwork with a court order showing their incarceration period in TDC or a federal prison. A criminal docket sheet from another court is not sufficient. The court will not call jails to obtain proof of incarceration. 14. How do I request community service?

Defendants must appear in person or by mail to request a Financial Form Canyon Municipal Court link. The application will not be considered if proper proof is not supplied nor will you be contacted for further information. Provide supporting documentation for the information put on the Financial Form.

The following documents, if they apply, Should be attached to support your request for community service.

Current pay stubs or W2 or Income Tax Filing for all persons working in the household, proof of public assistance received by anyone in the household; food stamps TANF; and Medicaid unemployment payments received by anyone in the household; workers' compensation payments received by anyone in the household SSI or SSD award letter received by anyone in the household; letter from employer indicating layoff or reduction of hours received by anyone in the household; and medical records of anyone in the household indicating inability to work.

YOU WILL ONLY BE ALLOWED TO WORK COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS IF YOU ARE FOUND INDIGENT OR YOU ARE A STUDENT IN A SECONDARY SCHOOL and the imposition of community service will not cause an undue hardship. You may also request a job search. The court’s job search program allows the defendant 30 days to document his search for employment and return the document to the court for review.

Note: Under State law, a judge also has the authority to waive payment and community service hours if the defendant presents proof that all alternative methods of discharging the fine or costs would impose an undue hardship upon the defendant.

15. What should I expect when requesting a court date (Pre-Trial Hearings)?

Prior to the day of trial, you must attend a docket. At this docket, the court will go over your rights at trial. You may also request to speak to the prosecutor and receive a plea offer. If you and the prosecutor can agree on a way to resolve your case (plea agreement), your plea will be present to the court at the docket. Most cases are resolved this way, but the court it not required to follow the plea agreement. If the court decides not to follow the plea agreement, you may withdraw your plea and the court will set your case for trial.

If you and the prosecutor cannot reach a plea agreement or if you do not wish to speak with the prosecutor, then the court will visit with you about how to resolve your case.

16. I missed my court date. What are my options?

You have the following options available: 1) You may pay the fine; or 2) you may post a bond and request a trial setting. 3) You may discuss your options with an attorney. The court cannot provide legal advice.

17. I received a ticket for no insurance or unconfirmed insurance but I have insurance?

Insurance citations may be handled online, by mail or in-person at the court. You must provide the declaration page of your insurance policy along with the insurance card. For the judge to consider the citation for a dismissal, the declaration page must cover the date and time the citation was received and the defendant (permissive use insurance policies will be verified by the court)..

18. I have a CDL (Commercial License)or had a CDL at the time of my violation?

You are ineligible for a Driving Safety Course or Deferred Disposition for a traffic violation.

20. If I have a warrant, will I get arrested when I appear in person voluntarily at the court?

Individuals who appear voluntarily at the Canyon Municipal Court will not be arrested. If you are unable to pay the violation in full you will need to appear at 1317 4^th Avenue, Canyon, TX to discuss payment options.  THIS COURT OFFERS YOU A “SAFE HARBOR” TO TURN YOURSELF IN ON CLASS C WARRANTS ISSUED BY THIS COURT:

In order to promote justice, ensure due process and the equal treatment of all persons, some of whom may be indigent or facing financial hardships, and to help clear outstanding arrest warrants and capias pro fine warrants, this court has a policy that it will not arrest or jail any person who voluntarily surrenders herself/himself to this court on warrants issued by our court if you make a good-faith effort to resolve the case before YOU ARE ARRESTED AND THE WARRANT IS EXECUTED. In other words, if you have active Class C misdemeanor warrants issued by this court and you voluntarily come in person to court YOU WILL NOT BE ARRESTED, THE WARRANTS(S) WILL BE RECALLED, AND YOU WILL BE GIVEN A COURT DATE TO SPEAK TO THE JUDGE ABOUT YOUR CASE, WITHOUT FEAR OF BEING ARRESTED.

21. I received a letter from Department of Public Safety regarding the suspension of my driver's license. How can I get this corrected?

You will need to contact the local DPS office for further information.
